    @andymacceltic The guy’s name isn’t “Smoke Monster” – he was human once. It’s sorta a factor in creating some sort of back story for the HUMAN that is behind the “monster” we all fear. To think that one day he’d been human gives him something for us to relate to – but we can’t do that if he has no name. Everyone has a name. If Jacob & his brother’s mother was killed by the woman, & she also gave him NO name – then that’s just sad to never have had a name. maybe that’s why he wants to leave! lol

    PS I completely understood what “You and I are the same” + the “Thank you” when she died meant…. SHE’S IMMORTAL. That’s why she never aged from the time they were born to the time that Smoky & Jacob were full grown men; that’s why Jacob never ages. Smoky just never ages b/c of his transformation from a human man into a smoke monster – it sorta freezes him at the age he was when he was KILLED… So seeing as she was really amazingly old, she finally gets to die & end that life

    @ibkristykat But by not revealing his name we will forever refer to him as ‘the man in black’ or ‘the smoke monster’ or whatever other evil name we might associate him with. What if they revealed his name was Bruce, for example, his whole persona would be less intimidating, Jacob vs Bruce doesn’t sound quite as exciting as Jacob vs The Man in Black. He’s an evil and mysterious character, and not revealing his name keeps it that way.

    @ibkristykat + I don’t personally believe those 2 are their “very own Adam & Eve”… those people don’t know their backstory & so just assume that’s who they are. the “Adam” there is from God knows where, & God knows WHEN, birthed from some spanish-type speaking woman (it sounded spanish only mixed with latin or something very odd) with another – a twin.. yet raised by a crazy woman.
    Jacobs Bro & the black smoke monster ARE the same person still – he even told Kate “I had a crazy mother”

    @andymacceltic Here’s my thinking. to gain sympathy for the human nature of the “man in black” who was transformed into being a “smoke monster”, I have to be able to say “aw poor no name he had a crazy mom who killed his REAL mom, and repressed the 2 boys by doing some hocus pocus so that the 2 of them can’t kill each other OR leave the island. boo hoo. i feel bad for him. no WONDER he wants to leave the island. 3 cheers to no name for wanting to leave. go ahead”

    @OTHfan9 Dharma comes in WAY after this

  7. andymacceltic /

    @ibkristykat But he’s the bad guy! We’re not supposed to feel sympathy for him, we should understand his motives but not to the extent that we feel his motives are justified, we’re not supposed to like this guy.

    @andymacceltic I’m sure someone does anyway LOL

    @andymacceltic I absolutely agree with you on that one. I don’t really want a name for him either.

    The light has the smoke monster trapped in there, when jacob throws in his brother in there it realeases the monster. In the season finale you can see at the bottom of the light there is 1 skeleton which is jacob’s brother which prooves that its not the black smoke… Black Smoke was never a person…

  15. puellaimproba /

    the black smoke has nothing to do with jacob’s brother, right??

  16. shuete /

    @puellaimproba
    of course it has

    @Norbertasss In one episode the Black smoke tells Ben that he walks because it remindes him that he was once human. This shows that the smoke monster is or was human. Also, the Smoke monster in the form of Locke throws out the white rock that was a peice in the game that Jacob and his brother played as kids, showing that he is Jacob’s brother, not just some smoke monster trapped in the light. I think that the Black Smoke is Jacob’s brother’s spirit.

    I thought this episode was the worst episode in the history of lost.

  23. cheater0951 /

    @butternut86 your forgetting about Expose

  24. butternut86 /

    @cheater0951 Expose was the episode where Nikki and paulo got kicked off. Any episode that involves two hated characters being buried alive deserves an award. I actually liked that episode. I did hate Nikki and paulo as characters, but I didn’t mind when they were killed off. I would say across the sea was worse.
